FC Twente Participates 25 Times in Groenlo
15 June 2025Sjoerd Overgoor, trainer-coach of FC Twente/Heracles U-15, is definitely not dissatisfied with his team’s performance. “The first two tournament days were fine. We showed good team play and conceded only 3 goals in 5 matches. We just lacked conviction and decisiveness inside the penalty area. We saw that again this morning against Grol during the penalty shootout. We missed the first two penalties, and then it was basically decided. By the way, last season we finished first in the league, and next season this group will compete in the second division. This squad already forms the core of the new group for the upcoming season. Four new players will join: three from Almere and one from Purmerend. Three of the four will live with host families; the other chose to use public transport.”
What are your plans for next season, and what are your ambitions?
“First, a bit about this tournament: the Marveldtoernooi is a great way for us to end a successful season. I also played here myself in 2003, and I remember it was already a top tournament back then, with all the conditions perfectly arranged. We hope to come back here often. Next season, I’ll be moving up with this group to the U-16. It’s fantastic to work with youth players, so I hope to keep doing this for a long time. As for my ambitions: I could say a lot, but in football, everything can change in an instant!”
