About us

The Marveld Tournament is an international youth football tournament organised by football club Grol. Youth teams (age category Under 15) from well-known professional clubs from the Netherlands and Europe, but also from other continents, come to Groenlo every year to compete against each other. The first edition took place in 1990, at that time one day and with only De Graafschap as a professional football club. In the meantime, it has grown into a four-day football event in which the youth teams of top clubs such as Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV, AZ, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Anderlecht and Paris Saint-Germain are regular guests. Football teams from Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Japan, Korea, Ghana and South Africa also like to come to Groenlo. A youth selection of the organising association Grol participates every year and may then compete against the football stars of the future.

The organisation

The board, consisting of nine volunteers from football club Grol, organises the tournament together with more than 300 volunteers. As Mayor Annette Bronsvoort points out in SV Grol’s 100th anniversary book, “I think the whole of Groenlo is involved in the tournament in one way or another”. That huge volunteer group is also really needed to make it a wonderful football festival every year. Young and old help with the construction and decoration of the sports complex, serving the meals, press & PR activities, are team supervisor, ball girl/boy, 4th official etc. etc.

In addition to the group of volunteers, the Marveldtoernooi cannot do without the large group of loyal sponsors. Every year, more than 130 sponsors provide equipment or make a financial contribution. Marveld Tournament, more than football

Of course you will enjoy all those great matches, but the Marveldtoernooi is more than that. It really is an outing for the whole family. Every year, the “Kid’s square” offers all kinds of activities for the youthful spectators of the tournament. One can have fun all weekend on the bouncy castles present, play panna tournaments on the football pitches and take part in some organised interactive activities.
