“Dad, I scored!”

15 June 2025

For many years, it has been a wonderful tradition at the Marveld Tournament: the halftime game, better known as the shopping cart shootout. Normally, this game is held on the Alferink Field (main field). But due to the high temperatures this time, it was moved to Field 3, where there is more shade.

Just before the game begins, kids can sign up with our own Grol boys from the side activities team. Of course, there’s a quick peek into the shopping carts to see what kind of amazing prizes can be won. This time, there are beautiful prizes made available by the regular sponsor of this always entertaining game — Obbink Megastore Lichtenvoorde.

More than thirty boys and girls can’t wait to get started. They’re eager and excited. The two shopping carts are placed side by side in the goal, and the ball is set near the penalty spot. One by one, the children get a chance to try and shoot the ball into one of the carts using their finest technique. At first, it takes a bit of getting used to, but as the round continues, we start to see more and more clever chip shots.

After the first round, there are two winners. They play rock-paper-scissors to decide who gets to choose one of the great Obbink prizes first. Then, the father of one of the winners walks over and is greeted by his beaming child.
“Dad, I scored!” the enthusiastic winner shouts.
