For he’s a jolly good fellow!
9 June 2024Imagine having your birthday during the Marveld tournament. Double celebration, then. No birthday party at home, but you won’t be forgotten. Certainly not! As you sit quietly at the table for lunch or breakfast, you suddenly hear singing in the distance….for you; ‘For he’s a jolly good fellow, for he’s a jolly good fellow!’. The ladies and gentlemen of the kitchen brigade bring an instant smile to the faces of those present in the sports hall when Carry Walterbos leads a conga line towards you with a small cake (a decorated banana with a piece of Mars bar) with ‘fireworks’ in it. The birthday person might want to hide at first, but the joy soon takes over, as many join in the round of congratulations. Still a bit of a birthday.
This happened to Aaron Landvreugd of Ajax during Sunday breakfast. He turned 16 on Sunday. Sanne Waenink also received a serenade and her own little cake. Completely surprised, she accepted the congratulations with slightly flushed cheeks. On Friday, referee Clay Ruperti was also celebrated for his birthday. Congratulations, Clay, Nafairon, and Sanne.
